The clearskies scheme has been recently introduced, and many of the wood burners and multi fuel stoves we sell have a clear skies mark. However many of our customers see this logo and are left wondering what it actually means. Therefore we have put together the basics explaining what clear skies is, and how this potentially will effect choosing a wood burner or multi fuel stove.
Clear Skies is an organisation dedicated to encouraging the stove industry to produce environmentally kind, low emission, highly efficient wood burners and multi fuel stoves. Their independent certification scheme is designed to encourage stove manufacturers to not just meet the incoming Ecodesign 2022 regulations but exceed them, thus improving air quality for all of us.
Clear Skies provides independent certification based on the performance of the wood burning or multi fuel stove.
All clearSkies certified wood burners and multi fuel stoves have to meet the minimum performance level required for Ecodesign regulations. These regulations have stringent emissions limits and require the stoves to be highly efficient.
The levels of the clearSkies independent certification scheme makes it easy for homeowners to identify just how clean burning wood burners and multi fuel are.
Wood burning stoves are eligible to qualify for different levels of clearSkies certification, the higher the level the better the preformance and the kinder the stove is to the environment.

ClearSkies is dedicated to promoting wood burning, and therefore while they do cover multi fuel (mineral fuel) stoves, they are not eligible for a clearskies level, and therefore only qualify to carry a clearSkies mark with no level if they have met the requirements for the Ecodesign regulations.
We feel this scheme not only encourages the stove industry to design and manufacture highly efficient & cleaner burning wood burners and multi fuel stoves, but it also provides a simple and helpful guide for homeowners to aid in making a more informed decision about the stoves they are considering.
